Most of what writing taught me came from reading drafts aloud. You hear the sentence that runs too long before you see it.
Listen to the page.
Keep your place.
ReadHalo reads articles aloud and highlights each word as it’s spoken. The page stays exactly as it was.

Press play: this is the real player, reading in Heart. Hear all five Premium voices.
Five Premium voices
The same passage in each. Pick the one you’d happily listen to for an hour.
By the time the rain stopped, the market had emptied and the streetlights were coming on, one by one. The fruit sellers were the last to go.
Your device’s own voices work too, with no account.
Built into the sites you read
On X and Reddit, ReadHalo’s button sits in every post, beside Reply and Comments, as if the site shipped it. Everywhere else, a small player waits at the bottom of the page.
More sites are getting their own button.
Trying something new this month: every essay gets one read-through with my eyes closed.
Read your drafts out loud before you publish
Started doing this last year and it changed everything. Clunky sentences jump out the moment you hear them. Now nothing goes out until it has been heard once.
Same. I catch twice as many typos by ear as by eye.

The long way home
The best walks have no destination. You leave the house, turn left where you usually turn right, and let the street decide. An hour later you are somewhere you have passed hundreds of times and never seen.
Most of us move through the city on rails we laid down years ago.
While you listen
The player stays small and out of the way. The page is still yours.
Select to listen
Highlight any passage and press play right above it. ReadHalo reads just that part, then gets out of the way.
Scroll away
The voice keeps going and the page stays where you left it. Follow along brings you back.
Jump anywhere
Click any sentence to start from there. Links still open, and you can still select text.
Set the pace
Anywhere from 0.5× to 2.5×, from the player’s Reading options. The highlight keeps up.
Where ReadHalo runs
Chrome first. Safari and iPhone are built and on their way.

Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc on a computer, installed from the Chrome Web Store. Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad is coming soon. Firefox isn’t supported yet.
Why does Chrome say it can “read and change” data on all websites?
ReadHalo reads a page to find the article and draw the highlight. That happens inside your browser: it doesn’t send page addresses, titles or your history to us. We collect limited usage counts to improve setup and listening, including that the player appeared, but not where. What we collect. To limit site access, open chrome://extensions, choose Details under ReadHalo, and change Site access.
Do I need an account?
Not for your device’s voices. Premium voices need an account, so your free and Premium characters follow you.
What counts as a character?
Every letter, space and punctuation mark a Premium voice reads. 500,000 characters is about 10 hours of listening. Replays of saved audio don’t count. How characters are counted.
Can I cancel?
Cancel renewal from Manage account whenever you like. Premium stays until the end of the period you paid for, and device voices stay free after that.
Does it work on my phone?
Not yet. iPhone and iPad are coming soon. For now, add ReadHalo to your browser on a computer.
